Why does the tree do this?
I can't tell in this case, but often it is a mutation in a bud, starting a branch. All growth from this bud will have the changed growth pattern. Many a miniature nursery evergreen tree is originally grafted from a finding in nature, and then propagated by grafting. If your finding was grafted, I'd expect a beautiful compact fir with deep green needles.

I enjoy your great photos!

I like these photos. There is a pleasing solitude to them. Sometimes we have to remove ourselves from daily life to catch our breathes and refresh before being able to deal with life. Some people do call that procrastination. And that is OK. Be well. www.sandycoleman.wordpress.com

Ana, My grandson is very much into pretending. He was searching for honey! I am not sure how much time I will have to just be in the month of November. Grin. I have a full-plate and I don't mean yams and stuffing! ;-)

Oh yesterday I was my injury I was a gaping wound and oozing everywhere. The confidence comes and goes. Yesterday I iced and could not find relief from pain. Today I run a 9K. Craziness. I thank God for my strong legs. I try to remember I am not alone. My upper body injury is something I can learn from. But, I get angry, and break down often. What is your injury? You can feel free to answer me privately or not at all. I don't want to be pushy.

Yes, the UP is a magical place -- it coupled with Lake Superior makes it feel like heaven on earth for me. Thanks for writing your blog, Kim. Even though you started it two years ago, it gives me much hope reading it now. I'm slowly making my way forward through the past two years of your writings. It's good to know, I'm not alone.
