End of Summer?

summerbluesfriends_8789DreamyVP

Yesterday, I heard a young friend refer to Labor Day as the End of Summer. They, of course, were referring to the return to school on Tuesday. Personally, my summer will not end until the Fall Equinox on September 22nd. The warm dog daysare here for September. I have many more beaches to walk. I have a Shore Run to train for on September 26th. And I will be designing a tee-shirt that states proudly, “I Lost 45 @ 45!” That’s 45 pounds at age 45 (big smile). This is also a new Adventourous Project and I will have more to report by the end of the month.

Kim Shoots Negaunee–Self Portrait(s)

Kim in Blue Window

Good Saturday, Mike and I shot Negaunee. The sun was at just such an angle that I kept capturing myself. So giving in I began to play with my reflection in windows. Oddly enough the second shot posted here is in the window of a portrait studio. I wonder what the photographer will think?

Marquette Tags

Tag Mike on Bridge, photo captured by Kim Nixon

Mike Hainstock is the founder and administer of Marquette This Week at Flickr. He came up with a great theme this week:

“Do you see others taking pictures around you? I thought that it might be fun to see who else is out and about taking pictures this week. It might make for some nice introductions. Who can you catch? “

Well I caught Mike on the bridge above–tag!

That was fun, but the graffiti tags ruining a fine piece of Marquette history was no fun. Graffiti in the inner city seems like an art-form, but here in nature above the Dead River it is out of place. I want to be thinking of flowing water, fish, birds, get all zen.

To the artists of these tags I want to say, “I am sad.” I find your expression out of place on this overpass, and on this old bridge. I will gladly buy you some other art supplies to keep you busy.

My apologies to the young couple, your Public Display of Affection was caught by my camera and my heart. I thought before the ice leaves Marquette, love has bloomed. Before daffodils and crocus, before the men on the ice stop fishing, before boats can sail, there is love. Thank you! It’s all we really need. Love.
