An Inspiration to Change

As I reflect on this passing year I find myself coming back to these questions posted in the right-hand margin of the blog.

  • What are you creating?
  • Most exciting is the change that comes with weight loss and changing to a fit lifestyle. I am creating greater self-esteem and raising awareness of others. Change is a strong possibility with goal-setting and determination. This is creating new directions in both personal and professional ways. I have started the new blog Http://www.runningmarquette.com.

  • What changes are you moving thru?
  • I’m moving thru a new health challenge that is yet undiagnosed. Possible gall bladder and intestinal pain that seems to be managed by not eating wheat, dairy, meat, and refined sugars. This is causing me to slow down and learn tenderness and to focus on where I have become bitter and hardened.

I’m moving thru a period where greater focus on my earnings and finances is needed. Greater focus on paying down debt is needed. But more importantly living truer and not letting the moments take over my focus. I was too easily swayed by “wants” often losing focus of the long-term. Now the challenge comes to redefine the financial goals and remember the practicalities.

  • What successes are you enjoying?
  • I’m enjoying the energy and fitness that came with the journey of losing over 50 pounds in one year. I am pleased with the confidence I have gained and my faith in accomplishing tough goals and tenacity to move through adversity.

  • What change do you desire?
  • I want to write a book, an ebook, further develop the web-presence and develop online sales of my photos. I want to build community with other women, writers, and artists. I want deeper connection to family. I want to increase my earnings as an artist. Freedom to schedule my days as I please and more movement in my outdoor daily life. If working a day job find one I can make a good earning at and still walk/bike to work.

Oh Christmas Tree…how has this year passed?

Over the next week I will be working on what I call my “evolutions.” These are similar to goals but usually have more to do with changing my lifestyle. I have been a little bitter that I had not made greater progress. I will be reflecting more on last year’s in the coming week and developing 2010 Evolutions.

    2009 Evolutions
    Family
Invite family into my life. Be more accessible to my children and grandchildren.

How did I do? I spent more time with Ceiri and Liam but need to improve my contact with the boys.

    Community
Work on relationships with other woman and build a sisterhood. Make lunch dates, invite women to coffee. Find a like minded group, ecologically, health, or spiritual.

How did I do? I took part in a Wealthy Spirit Group that consisted solely of women. I did not however build a social life with other women. I did publish consistently with All Things Girl and came on board as one of the Art Editors.

    Abundance
Continue to pay down debt with a stronger emphasis on credit cards. Double savings and be less of a consumer: buy used, utilize CraigList and Yooper Yard Sale, return what you do not use to the community.

How did I do? My debt grew and realizing this I shut down two of my credit cards. I did buy clothes at Vinnies and Goodwill as well as cleaned out closets of clothes I shrunk out of and donated the many bags.

    Invest
Commit to a travel savings. Keep building a savings in a high yield account or with Certificate of Deposits. Build an escrow account. Get at least one month ahead on bills.

How did I do? I did no accomplish any of this goal.

    Ritual
Build a daily yoga practice that includes breath, stretching and prayer. Build a morning writing practice even if it is 10 minutes after oatmeal.

How did I do? I did write more and publish more in 2009. I do stretch daily–but it is not quite what I had in mind as a formal yoga practice. I did not form a morning writing practice.

    Health
Continue with weight loss and remember the emphasis should be on fitness, too. Build endurance for hiking. A stronger core will help me go the distance. Continue with care of arm and neck by utilizing nutritional support, massage and chiropractic.

How did I do? I did all of this!! Whoot! I Lost over 50 pounds. participated in 8 months of PT. I have a stronger core. My nutrition has been tracked for over 11 months now.

    Professional
The new door that opened in 2008 was related to my photography and connection to beauty. Foster this connection to beauty by staying centered and filling your own peace. What will follow is a sharing of joy, and abundance.

How did I do? I continue to learn and grow with my artistic endeavours.

    Harmony
Flow, this is your theme for the year. Fluid motion. Like the river to the shore. Like the lakeshore and the ever changing shoreline. Contours change and definitions are rigid. Tai Chi, yoga, breathe, laughter, song, will bring more ease.

How did I do? I did not flow quite as well as I wanted. But I learned to run!

“Downtown where all the lights are bright…”

I needed color on a gray day. I needed a gentle camera walk. And I needed not to feel overwhelmed by finances or holidaze. So I headed downtown!

    An Ordinary Wednesday (with migraine)

Suffering, today, I headed home with a photo-sensitive headache that caused me to draw the blinds all-day at work. Blue skies up the hill in Negaunee, and heavy dark snow clouds hanging over the big lake in Marquette, this is one trigger of headaches, weather fronts that cause a drop in barometric pressure. Other triggers, fears of money , lost shifts, and how I will survive the month of January. The doubt of how on Earth I can follow a dream when broke. Luckily, the sun cast a golden light reminding me of my “sight” my gift of framing up a photo even when in pain and fear. I went with the flow and listened to that voice in my head. The voice that says no, not here drive up the hill. Click. Click. Quick now to the harbor. Click. Out to the island. Click.

I have a photo of red beets now appearing at Absolute Michigan!

Winter Snow Flakes–Remembering a Different Drift of White

    trillium_upfront_8149

…trilliums like white snow drifting on spring green under trees just leafing. This vista takes me by surprise. No bloom is similar. I am surrounded by unique creations tilting their faces toward sky. Gifted.

Winter Snow Flakes are short incomplete ethereal writings that flit on the wind and promise only glimpses of warmth.

    Winter Snow Flakes–Blues

…to watch the birch trees on the side of this hill teaches one that over the course of the day shades of white shift toward tints of blue. The purples of a clear cold-winter-night will follow, and I will seek the warmth of my Magic Man, Mike.

–written while looking out a window on a respite shift.

    You Are My Sunshine!

I sing the song “You are My Sunshine” to both the photographer and of course to my grandson! I could not think of a better photo to look at on a snow-day in Marquette then a photo of Hiawatha Music Festival!

    Holidaze(d)

    holidaze_homes_otherthanmine1-2451vp

It’s true this time of year gets me dazed. I never have enough time. There are too many things I want and feel I cannot get or ask for, like camera equipment and electronics. Then a simple image can center me. That’s why I love photography and that I was bitten by the bug. Still life shots. Nature shots. Grand Vistas. It is this framing of images that pulls me out of the “I wants.” And reminds me of the blessings around me everyday.
