Art Every Day, 12/30, Got Light?

Warm Light, photo by Kim Nixon

Today is slate gray with sheets of rain. Even a massage, a visit to my grandson, and a quick trip to the Marquette Food Co-op for garnet yams could not warm me to create, today. So, I cleaned the studio. I pitched clutter. And I came across this photo taken at the 33rd Annual Upper Peninsula Gem and Mineral Show, August 2, 2008. Got light?

When you feel like you just cannot create look to old work for inspiration. This photo reminded me of warmth; the blue sodalite of the lamp in the foreground catches my attention and the glow pulls me in deeper. Magically, I am there. I hate using flash and rather use Photoshop to “curve” a capture just a bit to bring it alive.
