Before and After, Snow Day
Yesterday was a green day. Winter was predicted. At the last possible moment of our short Upper Peninsula Autumn I snapped this photo. The new arbor will have grape and hops vines and a honeysuckle. We hope to hang a swing. But for winter we have hung a bird feeder and I am considering hanging evergreen boughs over the top of the structure. The garden bed in front of the structure had dahlias, mums, lemon marigold, lemon thyme and french thyme. I have planted other perennials for next year. I hope they set firm roots.

I awoke with the alarm at 6 a.m. and did what every student in the district did, listened for the announcement of school closures. It wasn’t a lot of snow in Upper Peninsula terms. But it was heavy wet, and icy. Higher elevations had more snow. Thinking it might all melt quickly (a false hope) I took this photo before the day began to brighten. Since, it has snowed and sleeted. I was suppose to sub-teach today at Marquette Senior High School. Instead I am going to be creative and cook hot food. As I look at this photo I know that the birds deserve more cover out in that area of the garden and I am thinking where I can go cut boughs.
